Sean M. Black, 42 of Leechburg, Westmoreland County went to Tri-Arc Manufacturing in the 300 block of Fountain Street in Blawnox, Allegheny County, just before 6:30 a.m. and opened fire at the workers, Superintendent Joseph explained.
Courtney Smith, 30 of Blawnox, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene, according to the medical examiner. A 26-year-old man was also shot and was taken to an area hospital by paramedics in critical condition, the police stated.
When officers arrived at the scene for a report of an active shooter, workers were rushing out of the building telling them Black was still firing.
"There were only two officers when they were told that there was gunfire active inside the building. They went in and were able to take the actor into custody," Joseph said, explaining they had called for back up but it had yet to arrive.
The police believe Smith and Black were in or had previously been in a relationship and the shooting was domestically motivated. The man who was shot was a coworker and a bystander to the situation.
Tri-Arc is closed as the investigation continues.
Black has been charged with the following according to his court docket:
Criminal Homicide.
Felony Aggravated Assault.
Misdemeanor Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
Felony Carrying a Firearm without a License.
Criminal Attempt - Criminal Homicide.
Black was taken to the Allegheny County Jail pending preliminary arraignment where he will presumably be denied bail per state law on homicide charges.
